A Way to Travel in Luxury with Toddlers!
…Yes - it can be done! Picking a great destination and luxury family friendly hotel for your summer holiday makes such a difference. Remember it’s your vacation too, not just for the kids!
top family travel photoshoot tips
Scope out a few cute spots around where you are staying the few days before your shoot and make sure you are allowed to shoot there first!
Pack some cute toddlers outfits
Take shots early in the morning (these were 9am!) as morning light is always the freshest, there are less people around to photobomb the background, the kids are well rested and there’s less time to get food spills down their nice clothes ;)
If you want a family photo on your trip you can search Instagram for a local photographer - I found this photographer through the Alt Summit conference I was attending
Be prepared for potential meltdowns! Always carry a reward toy and treats in exchange for good behaviour and smiles!
Have something fun planned just for the kids after like a trip to get ice cream. We had the last shot of the session at the pool so they could just right in once we were done. We then headed to the lemonade stand to get some sweet treats!
Make sure you get ready before the kids else you’ll never have enough time - I speak from experience (cue fake eyelashes hanging down my cheek!)
This may sound like a lot of work but trust me it’s not! If you plan it right you can do 2-3 shoots within an hour. We managed 3 different looks and locations in 45 minutes with our next outfits laid on the bed and ready to go!
You may feel a bit rushed and not all together but when you see the finished images back from the Photographer you’ll be amazed and so happy you did it!
These images were shot in front of the Jonathan Adler Spa at The Parker Palm Springs but the hotel was so gorgeous there were so many places we could’ve shot. It’s so gorgeous at the Spa and worth a visit even if you don’t get a treatment.
The Parker may not seem it at first glance as a beautiful up-market hotel, but they are family friendly and even have a separate pool just for families and kid-friendly foods like grilled cheese, french fries and burgers!
Having this photoshoot was such a sweet way to celebrate Aura’s 2nd birthday and gives us the chance to keep the memories forever! This is my favourite photo of her little scrunched up face, definitely one to be printed!
I absolutely love all the colors in these photos - hello Vogue! The scenery was perfect and they make me feel so summery to look back at now.
We splurged with a room with a table and chairs on the patio outside so the kids could have a little private play area. Plus, it meant we could order rout our food and get room service so we weren’t always eating at the hotel. There was even a sandbox and hammock in our little private garden! We brought sand toys with us from home.
The landscape architecture of the grounds at The Parker is totally breathtaking. There are so many little pathways leading to private areas where you can play croquet, chill at the fire pit or just run around beautiful sculptures in a grassy, open area. It really had a secret garden vibe to it all. I got lost every time I had to walk to the lobby ha.
This hotel was a great place for us to start luxury travel as a family. If you have any favourite luxury locations we should try out next, please let me know!
Love, Lynn
