Black Nosed Sheep Farm in Switzerland
I have to admit - visiting the Black Nosed Sheep Farm in the town of Zermatt, Switzerland was one of the top highlights of our trip! I took the top photo so quickly as Nic was walking in front of me without him even knowing. It turned out to be one my favorite pictures. There are no cars allowed in Zermatt (the exhaust would hamper the views of the Matterhorn, which is the towns main tourist attraction) so the options are by foot, eBus or eTaxi...or as Nicolae and I called the buses, the Gruyere cheese bus.
I found out about the tour from one of the hotels we were going to book at. Instead, we opted for a chalet with 2 bedrooms and a full kitchen. Most hotels do not have kitchens and with the kids, we needed one. We met at the hotel, hopped on the eBuses, and headed up the mountain.
The Romantik Hotel Julen is family-run and proud owners of the Black Nosed Sheep Farm. This specific type of sheep is bread for their dominant black noses.
The Julen family holds over 300 black nosed sheep, which is worldwide the largest breeding. Black nosed sheep have a calm personality and were a hit with Tudor & Aura as you can see. While visiting the farms, they had local food, wine and cheese from their own production.
Aura's adorable jacket was a gift from her baptism and is from a boutique children's store in Romania. It even has a matching bonnet and muff. Tudor's ski sweater is leather and wool and made in Romania. I linked some of our other clothing and options available below.
