Family Water Living & SUPing
Family Water Living is in full effect when it's Summer time here in Northern California! When we first saw our house we knew we had to have it. Outdoor shower, yes please! That was on my bucket list! As most of you know, I grew up being in the water, from swimming in College to lifeguarding Summers on Cape Cod to now having children and living on the water. See my last posts on water safety for babies & toddlers.
As for Nicolae's bucket list, it's a boat, but for now we have our wonderful SUPs or Stand Up Paddle boards.
It's a quick walk down to the water from the house. We always make sure Tudor has his life jacket on anytime he goes down to the water. SUPing with Dada has really been a great way for the two of them to bond. It is important that they have their own activities to do together.
We got Tudor's cute life jacket at a local boating store called West Marine. His shorts are from Janie and Jack and his rash guard is Polarn O Pyret.
Our SUP is from Amundsen Customs. The shape of this one is more of a racing board for sure, but you can get a much more stable one to start. I was just looking at his site and he built one of his first foil surfboards for my friend who I used to lifeguard with back on Cape Cod, MA, small world!
Investing in a carbon fiber light paddle may seem expensive at $200 a paddle, but this was worth every penny spent. Trying to paddle through high wind with a quick stroke your arms will thank you!
If you have any questions on water safety with kids, SUPing or what kind of board to get, please let me know. What is your favorite water sport and do you do it with your kids?
