A Day in the Life of Mommy Summer Camp in Quarantine
If you’d have told me a year ago that my kids would’ve been out of school this year from March onwards and I’d be homeschooling them… I’d have choked on my cocktail laughing in disbelief! Here’s what a day in the life of Mommy Summer Camp looks like since 2020 took a turn…
If you’re a Mama I’m sure you can relate to the cabin fever that was the first half of the pandemic, as we were all getting used to homeschooling and trying to find our rhythm, and now we’re at a place where we’ve got a good thing going on!
Even if you don’t think you have it together, don’t worry. You’re doing all that you can and that, Mamma, makes you more than enough for your family!
We’ve always been an active family, but since the pandemic struck we’ve been getting some fresh air as much as possible!
On this day we had a socially distanced playdate with a girlfriend of mine and her kids (don’t worry, we were all in masks and had hand sanitizer applied at every turn!) at China Camp State Park.
We made the visit in to a little history lesson and I printed out trail maps for the kids which they obviously obsessed over at every turn in the hike. And here’s a history lesson for you too!

The park is nestled along the shore of the San Pablo Bay. The road through the park offers beautiful views of the waterfront. Features include an extensive intertidal salt marsh, meadow, and oak habitats. There is a variety of wildlife, including deer, squirrels, coyote, fox, bats, and numerous birds. The California clapper rail and the salt marsh harvest mouse are endangered species that live in the marsh areas of the park.
A Chinese shrimp-fishing village thrived on this site in the 1880s. Nearly 500 people, originally from Canton, China, lived in the village. In its heyday, there were three general stores, a marine supply store and a barber shop.
Fishermen by trade in their native country, they gravitated to the work they knew best. Over 90% of the shrimp they netted were dried and shipped to China or Chinese communities throughout the US. The museum at China Camp Village helps tell the story of these hardy shrimp fishermen.
On the way home, we got burgers and ate them in our cars in the parking lot chatting through open windows and doors (I SO wish we got a photo of this!)
After a long walk, checking ourself over for ticks(!) and a good burger and fries (anyone else totally guilty of giving their kids a burger a couple times a week?) it was bath time back at home while my husband was out fishing. We made cotton candy with our little Amazon maker (linked below along with our favorite mini popcorn machine!) and when Nic got home we cooked up the amazing salmon he caught on the grill.
This, to me, was the perfect socially-distanced Summer’s day!
IN NEED OF SOME FUN INSPIRATION TO JAZZ UP YOUR SUMMER AT HOME?
I’d love to know, what does on of your better days-in-the-life look like? (I say better, because you know I’ve spent 50% of quarantine shut in doors eating yummy food LOL)
