How to Host a Toddler’s Birthday Party on Zoom During Lockdown
This year, we had to swap the usual big toddler birthday party for a zoom Frozen themed birthday party during Shelter at Home! It was so much fun. Here’s how we did it…
for a toddlers zoom birthday party you will need:
Balloon packs
Fun costumes (we had an Elsa theme!)
Cozy corner in your house
Birthday cake
WiFi
The free Zoom app
Friends 🙈
….that’s it!

OMG this was so much fun!
We’ve had birthdays in Palm Springs, at home with huge spreads of food and guests, in our garden with the grill going and friends under a huge tent, but never virtually! 2020 is the year of firsts, I guess.
This was definitely unlike any birthday party we’ve ever thrown before! We had to improvise… our favorite bakery was closed, so we had to grab one from the grocery store. I had to panic buy balloons and stay up all hours of the night making this arch… it turned out so good! I’ll link the exact balloons I used below. Here’s a tutorial I did a few years ago on how to make a balloon centerpiece - the method is basically the same for an arch.
When you order a balloon garland, it arrives with a plastic strip with holes in it, so you blow up the balloons and punch them into the gaps on the strip to create a seamless arch. Pro tip: Have your husband blow up the balloons and do it late at night once the kids have gone to bed!
Me being me, I had to be extra and make it ombre ;) It’s so simple but is really effective, start with the darkest color you have and gradually disperse them into mid-tones and then lights. Simple!
Aura and Tudor had such a great time seeing their friends on the screen, and when everyone joined in to sing Aura happy birthday it was so sweet.
We had an Elsa theme (hence me wearing my tiara 😉) and played party games remotely. I even had a stack of paper plates to pretend handing out cake to our ‘guests’!
If you’re hosting a party for your kids during this time, get creative and have fun with it! I think a lot of the time we put a lot of pressure on ourselves to make parties next level for our kids, but that’s simply not possible during a lockdown when we all need to be staying home. They’ll have fun whatever happens, just use your imagination.
